School management : Definitive Guide

School Management System

Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.
-Albert Einstein

Historical Context

Education delivery has changed dramatically with every century. There was a time when access to education was limited to the elite of the society!! rest of the population chose their occupation by birth and family occupation.

It was very rare for a person to decide a profession for himself as the societal norms and lack of opportunities left very little room to experiment. Books were expensive and knowledge dissemination was tightly controlled by the kings and rulers.

We have come a long way since. Information is accessible to everyone be it Science or literature. Education has started percolating to the bottom rung of the society. Times are definitely better compared to the past but the mass education poses some unique challenges.

Mass Commercialisation of Education :

Commercial aspect of education always existed as can be seen in education history . Each education institute must arrange funds to survive and maintain good quality teachers and must maintain a relationship with the wealthy and powerful donors , kings and armies. Which also meant that any research must also fulfill the goals of the monarchy or wealthy.

But certain societies where a period of peace and benevolent ruler allowed a wide variety of areas to be researched , be it ancient greece universities or gurukul system of ancient india.

Today there is a different sort of challenge for educational institute , for a lofty goal of providing education to everyone it is imperative that educationists of all walks of life are allowed to set up university but what has been found that most of these educationists abandon their stated ideals for want of making money faster. This has resulted in mushrooming of institutes that do not add much value to a student and only provide rote learning in a limited domain.

Quality Control:

Another challenge of mass education is quality control, the number of students specially in remote areas away from large cities has increased manifold and yet number of quality teacher and educationists has stagnated . This results in a extremely poor quality of education in most of the centers and causes disappointment to a large number of students and parents alike.

Industry suffers too because they cannot find the good quality man power nor individual is able to take the leap to start own business.

Access and Reach

Even though technology has simplified dissemination of information with the invention of mass printing , videos and audio recording coupled with low cost manufacturing has touched more lives than ever before in history and access is increasing by the day. Yet access to the content is no guarantee to improve educational quality.

A structured approach and discipline required for self learning is not everyone's cup of tea.

Future Forward

Even with many challenges we can be assured that the world of education has come a long way and is moving to the right direction . The goals are clear in the mind of everyone , be it governments , institutes or world bodies, that education must be part of the basic rights and not optional.

Technology can help institutes cope the challenges better by using a school management software which provides audit as well as connectivity between stakeholders. Similarly mobile apps can drive down the distance to reach the last person and allow her access to quality education in a safe environment using school app
